Born in a small town outside of Rouen, France, Erik had entered the world with an awful deformation to his face. It had struck fear into his Mother who displayed nothing but hate towards her Son, becoming the victim of discrimination and hatred from the society around them. Erik found it hard growing up; finding speech at a much later age than other children; not being able to fit in; fighting for affection from his Mother. She hated him, and he knew it. It wasn’t until he’d been forced into a nursery that he’d realised he was horribly different from other children his age. He’d plead at his Mother, *beg* her to not send him back to the nursery. She didn’t listen. At the age of 6, Erik foolishly ran away from home to pursue his dream of joining a circus. Characters in books he’d read over his childhood had done the exact same thing, which is why he aspired towards it too. They were happy, and he wanted to be too. He thought that the circus people would accept him; would take him in and care for him, just like his Mother never did. Or, so he though. After a month or so travelling with his new found family, Erik came to realise he was part of an underground, illegal freak show. It travelled the country, leaving Erik in the spotlight every night, being laughed at and humiliated by the public. He attempted to run away. But failed. He was caught, beat and raped until he bled; until he’d ‘learnt his lesson’. However, these beatings and such weren’t a single occurrence – even though he never attempted to run again. It all continued for 5 years before Erik finally snapped, managing to escape, killing who he needed to along the way. He walked for 11 days and 11 nights before he stumbled upon an Opera House towards the Centre of Paris. It intrigued him; the architecture was beautiful, as was the ambience the building gave off. He’d ventured around the outside for hours with a burlap sack upon his head, ignoring the questioning glances wealthy passers by would shoot him. After finding a secret passageway into the theatre, Erik took hospitality in the underground of it, amongst the flooded passageways, none of which anyone dared to enter. There, he remained unnoticed for 9 years and watched on as a young girl, Christine Daaé, grew up. He took great advantage of Christine’s Father’s death to get closer to her, making her, and other people, believe that he was the spirit of her Father. Around this time is where Erik began to notice the time he was losing – he would go to sleep, but wake up still tired, even though the hours he slept had increased over the years. Unknowing to him, he’d developed a severe mental condition, giving him another personality which called itself ‘The Phantom’. The Phantom chose to terrorise the people at the Opera House, occasionally killing people as he went. Once Erik revealed himself to Christine, he immediately fell in love with her. However, she did not return the feeling, but stayed somewhat loyal to the masked man. Although, it wasn’t long before The Phantom approached Christine, and with her still being resistant, he became spiteful and evil. Christine, not knowing the difference between Erik and his other personality, took no time in telling everyone of the supposed ‘ghost’. Once his identity was no longer secret, Erik had to escape once again. He was a wanted man all over France, so he immigrated to the USA. There, he spent 6 months in hiding until he was found by officials. During a health check, he was discovered to have several mental disorders, a result from the years of torture and humiliation. After this discovery, he was sent to Rainy Day mental facility. However, after months of being ‘treated’, The Phantom had grown irritant of the facility, escaping a total of 6 times before finally lashing out and hanging 3 of the nurses and several other patients. At this point, the hospital refused to take on his reckless behaviour anymore, therefore handing him over to Gale Mental Hospital and Rehabilitation Centre as a transfer patient. | |

Multiple personality disorder, wherein his other personality refers to himself as The Phantom, and is the complete opposite of Erik. He also suffers from anorexia, from the many years of running and hiding from the authorities. As for The Phantom… Well, he just likes killing people. (: | |
